Box Purchase: Tatuaje Havana Cazadores Saturday, Sep 1 2007

I am the proud owner of yet another box of Tatuajes. I recently started a great new job and got a little sign-on bonus with it. I decided that I earned myself a little reward for landing such a good gig so I took a bit of that bonus money and got me a box of the elusive Tatuaje Havana Cazadores. This particular vitola is reported to be Pete Johnson’s personal favorite and are considered by many to be the best in the regular brown label line (non Reserva or Cojonu). They tend to be darn hard to find too. These beauties measure in at 6 3/8′ x 43 ring. They are a sight to behold as you can see below (click each picture for an enlarged view).

So I can’t find Tatuaje in any local shops. I was thinking about carving this label as you suggested. I have one rule though…I need to smoke the cigar and like it before I spend countless hours carving it.
Any suggestions?

I have a couple suggestions. I’ll send you an email.

Congrats on the new job, and a fine way to celebrate it! I predict — and I’m going out on a limb here — that you will enjoy them. Cheers!

I know I’m a bit of a Tatuaje Homer. I have only smoked one of the Havana Cazadores before buying this box and I loved it. It knocked me on my rear. It hits you like a 10 pound hammer but despite the strength it is still a pretty complex smoke. I see great aging potential for these. I think with a year or two on them some of that power will mellow a bit and more of the flavors that may be masked or muted by the strength of the cigar will come through. I doubt I will be able to completely lay off them for a year, but I should be able to control myself enough to still have some left in the box when their 1 and 2 year birthdays roll around. I still have most of my box of Regios and according to the box date they turn a year old in just a couple months.
